(Las Vegas).- Visitors to Las Vegas are getting younger and more diverse, and international travel to the city is improving, according to a study released Tuesday by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
The entertainment options in the city include more performers who appeal to younger audiences, and the rise of sports entertainment — for both spectator and participatory events — makes Southern Nevada a place to gather, even for those not old enough to gamble legally.
The release of the chart-filled, 46-page document this month presents a new challenge for marketers to come up with ways to use the data gathered to develop campaigns to attract more visitors.
The average age of visitors in 2022 was 40.7 years, down from 43.2 years in 2021, per the study, which was commissioned by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Tourism has trended younger and younger over the last 30 years, the LVCVA says, down from the average age of 47.2 reported in 1992.
Last year also saw triple the number of foreign tourists from 2021. International visitors made up 9% of the nearly 39 million people who visited Las Vegas, versus 3% from the year prior. Still, that segment of visitation remains below pre-pandemic levels. International visitors made up 14% of the tourism in 2019 and 20% in 2018.
Las Vegas is also improving as a draw for convention attendees. Among those who came for a convention or expo, 63% said they were more interested in coming because the event was held in Las Vegas. That's up from 41% in 2021 and 44% in pre-pandemic 2019.
